Party-switching Sen. Arlen Specter fell to a younger and less experienced rival in the Pennsylvania Democratic primary, and political novice Rand Paul rode support from tea party activists to a Republican rout in Kentucky on Tuesday, the latest jolts to the political establishment in a tumultuous midterm election season.
I've met all of the candidates for the GOP nomination for the 2nd congressional district. It's difficult to tell that there are more than one. One candidate is a car salesman, who is a hyperpatriotic warmonger who hates gays (come on, why else would you want to keep them from marrying who they want), and thinks abortion should be outlawed, no exceptions, no excuses. Then there are four former naval officers (two of them former SEALs), all of whom are hyperpatriotic warmongers who hate gays, and think abortion should be outlawed, no exceptions, no excuses. And they all think the Patriot Act is just great.
Much as I hate to say it: re-elect Nye. Please.
Many “tea party” activists staunchly oppose big government, except when it is warring, wiretapping, or waterboarding. A movement that started out denouncing government power apparently has no beef with some of the worst abuses of modern times.
Radley Balko advises the republicans and democrats on how they should react to Charlie Crist running for the senate as an independent, each based on the other party's reaction to Joe Lieberman doing the same thing four years ago.

President Barack Obama took aim Saturday at the angry rhetoric of those who denigrate government as "inherently bad" and said their off-base line of attack ignores the fact that in a democracy, "government is us."
Well, lets see....
" If "we are the government," then anything a government does to an individual is not only just and untyrannical but also "voluntary" on the part of the individual concerned"
-Murray Rothbard
Personally, I don't care that about Obama's birth certificate, or lack thereof. Mainly because he's a socialist, and would be be replaced by another socialist if removed from office for this or any other reason. Still, we've seen how sleazy Obama can be, and that thing the state of Hawaii has represented as a birth certificate doesn't pass a smell test. And if he can't get on the ballot in any one state, because of a lack of a birth certificate could make 2012 really interesting.
MSNBC's Lawrence O'Donnell on Wednesday defended a GEICO voice-over actor who referred to Tea Party members as mentally retarded killers.
Pit maverick Republican Congressman Ron Paul against President Obama in a hypothetical 2012 election match-up, and the race is – virtually dead even.
